Bloomsburg University Women's Basketball Defeated by Clarion

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team held a five-point lead early in the second half but could not hold on, falling to the Golden Eagles of Clarion by a score of 54-38 Sunday afternoon.

Neither team could find their rhythm in the first ten minutes of the first half, with both teams shooting under 15 percent from the field. Trailing 7-3 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first, the Huskies Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) and Lauren Healy (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) would key a 10-2 run over a six-and-a-half minute span to take a 13-9 lead with 6:48 remaining in the first. A Colleen Kegerreis (Schuykill Haven/Schuykill Haven) lay-up with two minutes remaining put Bloomsburg up 19-15. Following a 6-0 Clarion run over the next 90 seconds, Joyce connected on a three-pointer to give Bloomsburg a 22-21 halftime lead.

In the second half, a Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) lay-up with 17 minutes remaining pushed the lead out to five, 29-24. From there, Gannon would go on a 24-2 run over the next ten minutes to put the game out of reach.

Joyce led the Huskies with 14 points, while Kegerreis collected eight rebounds. Bethany Koch led Clarion with 15 points.

With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 8-5 on the season.

Bloomsburg hosts its PSAC Eastern Division opener on Wednesday night when they host Cheyney. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
